This activity invites trainers on an inner journey to reflect on their well-being, motivation and job satisfaction.
During an experiential reflection, you will consider several questions relevant to the trainer’s identity, life and work.
We recommend doing this activity outdoors, where you can walk or hike alone or with other trainer colleagues.
If outdoor activity isn’t possible, you can use any other indoor space to review the questions, reflect on them and share your insights.
Questions for reflection
- What brings joy to your trainer's life?
- Holistic is about connecting body, mind, feelings and environment: which part stays forgotten? Why so?
- Try to imagine and identify your ‘perfect’ work-life balance: what does it mean to you? What are your priorities here?
- Are you working for a living or living for working?
- How do you see yourself as a trainer in non-formal learning? What is important to you in this job?
- Do we grow out of our professional role? How do we know it’s time to move on?
You can watch the following videos for inspiration before or after your inner journey. The International Youth Work Trainers Guild and our partners recorded them during the Holistic Trainer project.

Boosting Your Visibility: Self-Promotion for Trainers in the International Youth Field
- Step 1. Go on the inner journey, addressing the reflection questions through walking/hiking outdoors or indoors, preferably with other trainer colleagues.
- Step 2. Share your reflections and insights in conversations with other trainers.
